A. Robert Fischer died on February 13, 2021 in Texas surrounded by his family.  Rob fought a long battle with cancer and ultimately passed due to ARDS / COVID.  Rob was born April 21, 1957 in Greenwich, Connecticut, the son of Robert A. Fischer, Jr. and Loraine (Canfield) Fischer.

 

Rob was a 1983 graduate of The University of Texas School of Law.  He worked for Mobil Oil and then Day, Berry & Howard (now Day Pitney) in New York and Connecticut before joining Jackson Lewis, a nationwide workplace law firm, in 1993.  Rob practiced in Jackson Lewis’ Stamford, Connecticut office before returning to Austin in 2011 to help open the Jackson Lewis Austin office.

 

Prior to law school, Rob served for three years in the United States Army, where he was a Sergeant in an Army Security Agency airborne electronic warfare operation based in Fort Bliss (El Paso). Following his discharge, Rob completed his undergraduate education at The University of Texas-El Paso.

 

Rob was an active supporter of many organizations, including serving on the boards of the ZACH Theatre, where he was general counsel for five years, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and the UTEP Alumni Association, among others.

 

Rob had a big personality, lived life to its fullest, and loved the company of friends, good wine and good food.  He also loved attending UT football and basketball games, in Austin and often on the road.  But most of all, Rob loved and was devoted to his family.

 

Rob is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ann Corcoran, his sisters, Lynne (of Cincinnati) and Anne (of Sharon, New Hampshire), his son Kyle and his fiancée, Brittany Black (of Austin), his daughter Brooke and her husband, Richard Santiago (of Stamford) his daughter Madeline (of Baltimore), his stepsons Colin, Ryan, Brendan and Kevin Corcoran, and three grandchildren, Lucille, Roman and Abdon Santiago. 

 

In his final days, Rob shared with his family that he believed “there might be some ‘meant to be’ in me showing people how to face an end-of-life illness.”  And that he did – Rob faced the last years of his life with a vibrancy, positivity, peace of mind and love of life that awed us all. 

 

A celebration of life will be held on a later date, to be announced on www.rememberingrobfischer.com, at the Congregational Church of Austin.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Texas Food Bank, American Cancer Society, the ZACH Theatre or the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
